A canvas print depicting two brown hares engaged in the classic hare behaviour of "boxing". Normally a shy animal, the European brown hare changes its behavior in spring, (probably the origin of the term "mad as a March hare") when hares can be seen in broad daylight chasing one another around meadows. During this spring frenzy, hares can be seen boxing. For a long time it had been thought that this was inter-male competition, but closer observation has revealed that it is usually a female fending off the males. In this painting the larger hare on the left is the female or doe.
Reproduced from an original oil brown hare painting by Martin Ridley.
Please note: These brown hare prints both framed and unframed are produced following your order and are posted to you direct from the printers / framers.
