ORDERING ORIGINAL ARTWORK

Purchase with the assurance of a money back guarantee.

Please note that occasionally paintings may be unavailable for online purchase for the duration of a gallery exhibition.

 

Enquiries

The first step in purchasing any original is to make contact and confirm availability. I will then keep the artwork for you on a first refusal basis whilst I provide a quote for the cost of delivery.

I will gladly provide you with a better quality enlargement, a photo of the current frame or any other information to assist your decision making.

Once a purchase is confirmed the item will be marked as sold.

Payment by Installments
By arrangement paintings can be paid for in installments. A non-returnable 25% deposit secures the painting for you for up to 6 months, at the end of which any outstanding balance will need settling.

 

Payment Options

I accept payment by several methods. To pay for higher value items such as originals a bank transfer or cheque drawn on a major UK bank is preferred. Paypal invoices can also be set up and sent.

• Bank transfer direct to the Martin Ridley Ltd bank account. Contact for details (Preferred method)
• Personal cheque drawn on a major UK bank in pounds sterling (£)
• Emailed Payment link from SumUp - bank cards processed using SumUp

For INTERNATIONAL SALES, the exact total shown on my invoice, paid by direct bank transfer to Martin Ridley Ltd business bank account is accepted. Payment must be received and cleared to this account before the painting is removed from its stretcher or prepared for shipping. I will arrange the shipping myself and the painting will be sent to the delivery address shown on the invoice. Rolled canvas shipping can be offered where appropriate. Any limitations in carrier compensation are explained before the sale.

Postage, Packing and Shipping Insurance

POSTAGE

UK sales over £4,000: free delivery.
Overseas sales over £4,000: £100 reduction from the advertised artwork price (overseas delivery allowance), with international shipping charged separately at cost.The price of the original artwork does not include postage and packaging. Painting prices are direct selling prices unless stated otherwise.

The delivery costs can vary greatly depending on the destination address, the size of the artwork and its weight . I now quote for delivery costs following an enquiry. Recently I've shipped several canvases rolled ready for restretching and framing in the country of the recipient. This was a cost effective approach.

Communication will be sent to confirm your full payment and that your order has been dispatched.

N.B. If you select one of my most recent paintings dispatch may be delayed until I've been able to arrange any requested framing. I would like to apologise if at any other time as a consequence of my work commitments the dispatch of your order is delayed.

PACKAGING

Artwork is fragile and packaging is important for protection. Items are shipped flat, in sturdy wooden crates or in extra thick large diameter postal tubes to ensure your order arrives undamaged. For insurance purposes and safe transit originals under glass may have the glazing removed. You will need to obtain replacement glazing from your local framers.

Inspect any received package thoroughly before accepting / signing for it.
You must make a note of any damage on the delivery record. If you do not couriers will argue that the shipment was delivered in good condition.

 

SHIPPING INSURANCE

Original artworks are packed very carefully for transport. Full-value transit insurance for fine art is not always available through standard carriers and, where specialist cover is available, it can be disproportionately expensive. Before an international sale is completed, I will explain the carrier's applicable compensation limits. If you require additional specialist fine-art insurance, please discuss this with me before purchase.

CUSTOMS

All international packages need to be accurately described, with costs, on the customs declaration document.

Customs and import duties are not included. The customer is responsible for the payment of surcharges. Any customs or import duties are levied once the package reaches your country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you as I have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they might be. Since customs policies vary from country to country you may want to contact your local customs office for further information on any import VAT, customs duties and clearance/handling charges.

DOCUMENTS

Having successfully received your payment I will send you a confirmatory e-mail detailing your purchases. I issue a Certificate of Ownership to accompany your receipt. This is validated once your payment has been banked. At this point the painting becomes yours. I will then prepare the painting for dispatch and confirm the expected shipping date.

 

Prices and Availability

United Kingdom VAT is not charged on my original artworks. In view of the limited supply, the availability of items depends on previous sales.

UK: advertised price; free delivery on originals over £4,000.
Overseas: for originals over £4,000, £100 discount from the advertised price; international shipping charged separately at cost. Customer is responsible for destination-country import VAT/duties/clearance charges.
International Payment: exact invoice total by direct bank transfer for high-value international purchases; cleared funds before you alter, unframe, unstretch or dispatch the painting.

Prices are subject to change without notice. The prices displayed supersede all others previously quoted.

If an an offer to buy is made I reserve the right at my discretion to decline the offer and not sell the goods. Order acceptance and the completion of the contract between you and us will take place upon the dispatch of the products you've ordered unless I have notified you that I have not accepted your order or you have cancelled it.

Non-acceptance of an order may be a result of one of the following:

• The product you ordered being unavailable from stock
• My inability to obtain authorisation for your payment
• The identification of a pricing or product description error
• You not meeting my business's order criteria

All disputes will be settled under Scottish Law.

 

Original artwork return procedure - offer of refund

Always inspect any received package thoroughly before accepting / signing for it.

Please don't panic if for whatever reason you are unhappy with an original when you receive it or if it has been damaged in transit, you will get a full refund, including the cost of initial delivery, on returning the goods. In the unlikely event that you are dissatisfied with your purchase I operate a refund policy.

Returns and Refunds

I want you to be completely happy with an original painting purchased from me. If, having received it, you decide that it isn't right for you, please contact me in writing by email within 14 days of delivery to let me know that you wish to return it.

You then have a further 14 days to return the painting. Please keep the original packaging and use it to pack the artwork carefully for its return. Before arranging the return, please contact me so that we can agree on an appropriate and secure method of transport.

Unless the painting is faulty, damaged or not as described, the cost of returning it is the purchaser's responsibility.

Once the painting has been returned and received in good condition, I will refund the purchase price in accordance with your statutory rights. Any refund will be made using the same payment method and account used for the original purchase.

Paintings damaged in transit

Please inspect the packaging carefully when your painting arrives. If there is any visible damage to the package, please photograph it before opening and, where possible, record the damage with the carrier at the time of delivery.

If the painting itself has been damaged in transit, please contact me as soon as possible and send photographs of both the damage and the packaging. Please retain all of the original packaging while the matter is investigated.

I will deal with the carrier and discuss the appropriate solution with you. Depending on the circumstances, this may include repair, return or refund.

Damage in transit does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

 

Security and privacy policy

Your e-mail will be confidential and you will not receive any unsolicited mail from this source. I respect your privacy and do not trade or rent your name, e-mail address, address, phone number with anyone. You can rest assured that all information you provide is kept strictly confidential.

If you do not wish to receive any of my news (maximum of six e-mails per year) simply un-tick the box when entering your payment details. If you have joined my mailing list in the past you can "unsubscribe" at anytime. I have absolutely no wish to send mail to those who don't want it.

Frames for paintings

Painting prices do not include framing unless stated.

I have my paintings framed to the highest standards. I use bespoke framers who when required individually colour or gild my oil painting frames by hand. I can forward photos of how paintings are currently framed or make framing suggestions.

CAN I CHANGE THE FRAME?
Yes, if you would prefer the painting in a different style of frame or unframed just let me know. In most instances this can easily be arranged. (The price would be adjusted to take account of your requirements.)

 

Still undecided?

I can email a larger and better quality image.

Choosing a painting from a computer image is obviously not ideal as the colours will depend on your own monitor settings. If you have concerns regarding colour I can try matching a paper printout to the original and send it.

If feasible you might like to arrange an appointment to view the original.
